What It Is

Testing for cattle and calves infected with Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVD) is an important investment in the health and performance of your herd. Producers make significant management and culling decisions based on BVD test results, so the test they use must be accurate and reliable.

BioTracking offers testing for BVD, which producers can administer using either ear-notches or blood serum samples. Both are proven ways to detect the on-farm presence of the virus.

The IDEXX HerdChek* BVD Antigen ELISA Ear-Notch and Serum Test, performed by BioTracking, is an enzyme-linked immunoassay for the detection of BVD. This test is the only USDA-licensed test for detecting BVD persistently infected (PI) calves, which are a major source of transmission of the virus, and it is the fastest and most accurate method for detecting PI calves using ear-notch samples.
