How It Works

BioPRYN® begins with collection of a blood sample from the animal. The samples are then shipped to a laboratory where an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is performed. Reports can be sent via email, phone or fax. In some cases, reports may be downloaded directly into beef cattle management software.

Using BioPRYN assures accuracy. The assay is greater than 99 percent accurate when an animal is categorized as open, giving producers confidence to administer prostaglandin and restart a synchronization program to artificially inseminate (AI), turn their females out with the herd bull or cleanup bull, or cull the animal. The false-pregnant (false-positive) rate for the test is approximately 5 percent. It is presumed that a portion of this variance is due to early embryonic death, which is a challenge regardless of which method is used for pregnancy detection.
